Job Description

The work involves responsibility for conducting investigative work in the Office of the District Attorney. The position involves investigation of crimes, interviews of suspects and witnesses, collecting and preserving evidence, and other related crime detection duties. The incumbent is also responsible for acting as a liaison between the District Attorney's Office and various other law enforcement agencies. The work is performed under the general supervision of the District Attorney and Assistant District Attorneys with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work. Incumbents are required to work in accordance with established practices and procedures and are required to be on call 24 hours a day; may work nights and weekends. The incumbent is a Police Officer as defined under New York State Criminal Procedure Law 1.20(34) and will carry a handgun. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) years of full-time law enforcement paid work experience as an investigator or detective, three (3) years of which must have been at a rank of Sergeant (Police Officer or Deputy Sheriff) or higher. Preference given to those whose experience includes the supervision of investigations and personnel, felony level investigations, wiretap and eaves dropping investigations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have current Certification from NYS Division of Criminal Justice (DCJS) showing validation of Police Officer Registry status; Candidate must have firearm certification and maintain for duration of employment; Candidate must have valid driver's license and maintain for duration of employment; Residency requirements will be in compliance with 2005 Local Law #3 Pre-employment screenings required.

$27.77 - $36.97 per hour
