GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Conducts criminal investigations and cooperates with law enforcement officials in criminal cases; does related was as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is a law enforcement position involving the investigation of criminal matters on behalf of the Wayne County District Attorney's Office. The Investigator gathers evidence, conducts interviews, and substantiates facts in cases prepared for prosecution. The position operates under the direction of the District Attorney or a designated Assistant District Attorney. Examples of Typical Duties Assists in criminal investigation by gathering evidence and conducting interviews; Acts as liaison officer between the District Attorney's Office and the various municipal police agencies; Serves subpoenas in criminal cases; May be asked to accompany the various police agencies of the County on criminal raids; Maintains appropriate files on cases under investigation; Performs other investigative duties as directed by the District Attorney or a designated Assistant District Attorney. Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Good knowledge of techniques and procedures in criminal investigations; good knowledge of laws governing arrests, rules of evidence and court procedures; skill in conducting criminal investigations; ability to gather, assemble, analyze and evaluate facts and evidence, to draw logical conclusions and make recommendations; ability to establish and maintain friendly and cooperative relations with law enforcement officers of other governmental agencies; keenness of observation; good judgment; good physical condition. Minimum Qualifications
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and either: A. Nine (9) years of paid full-time, or its part-time equivalent, experience as a police officer involving specialized investigative work in physical crimes such as rape, robbery, homicide, arson, assault, or burglary; or B. Nine (9) years of paid full-time, or its part-time equivalent, experience as a police officer at the Sergeant level or above C. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS
Possession of a Police Officer Training Certificate issued by the New York State Bureau for Municipal Police Training Council at the time of appointment. Possession of an appropriate level New York State driver license at time of application. Current New York State Firearm/Pistol Permit. Qualification in polygraph administration. Criminal background history required. Convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will not automatically disqualify a candidate. No background check will be initiated until a conditional offer of employment is made unless otherwise required by law.
