JOB SUMMARY:
Under nominal supervision, the School Crossing Guard provides safe crossing of school children at designated school crosswalks throughout the City of Euless.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
School crossing guards are required to be on duty at their assigned duty station during the hours specified by the Patrol Division Commander. School crossing guards must always be ready to begin work on time and must never leave their posts early. School crossing guards are responsible for the control of, and safe crossings of, schoolchildren at their designated crosswalk locations. School crossing guards are responsible for familiarizing themselves with, and adhering to, the City of Euless Adult School Crossing Guard Guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Possess good hearing and vision. Must be able to withstand long periods of standing and walking. Must be able to safely direct and control the movement of children.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
School crossing guards must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to converse in English. Must have no prior convictions for any felony. Must have no misdemeanor convictions of grade "A" or "B" within the past 10 years. They must have no prior history of drug or child abuse. Must be available to work a split shift.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time while working in congested traffic. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Must be able to work around exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust. Ability to hold the crossing hand-sign up in the air for several minutes at a time, multiple times each shift. Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds.
