2300 N 2000 W Crossing Position Summary The Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe crossing of school children and other pedestrians at designated crosswalks before and after school. This part-time position plays an important role in promoting public safety by directing pedestrian traffic, monitoring vehicle compliance, and helping create a safe environment for students traveling to and from school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist children and pedestrians in safely crossing streets at designated crosswalks before and after school. Monitor traffic and ensure vehicles come to a complete stop before allowing pedestrians to cross. Communicate clearly with children, parents, and drivers using hand signals and verbal instructions as appropriate. Remain alert to changing traffic conditions and respond appropriately to ensure pedestrian safety. Report suspicious activity, traffic concerns, accidents, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor. Follow all safety guidelines, policies, and procedures established by the Clinton City Police Department. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality for assigned shifts. Wear all required safety equipment and maintain a professional appearance while on duty. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, snow, and cold temperatures. Reliable transportation to and from assigned crossing locations. Ability to remain alert, attentive, and focused while standing for extended periods. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in potentially hazardous situations. Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment. Working Conditions Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Regular exposure to vehicle traffic and roadway noise. Requires standing and/or walking for up to two hours per shift. May occasionally be required to lift or carry items weighing up to 20 pounds. Schedule Regular morning and afternoon shifts that coincide with the local school schedule. Typical workdays follow the school calendar and may include split shifts before and after school. Additional hours may occasionally be available for special school events or to cover other crossing locations.
