Rappahannock County High School is seeking a Scholastic Bowl Coach to lead its academic competition team. The coach will organize practices, mentor students in a wide range of academic content areas, and guide the team through VHSL district, regional, and (if qualified) state Scholastic Bowl competition. Job Description

Essential Duties
Plan and lead regular practice sessions covering literature, science, mathematics, history, geography, fine arts, current events, and general knowledge
Run buzzer-system drills and mock matches to prepare students for competitive play
Register the team for VHSL district and regional Scholastic Bowl competitions, and state competition if the team qualifies
Supervise students at all practices, matches, and travel, ensuring their safety and appropriate conduct
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and eligibility
Monitor and document student academic eligibility per RCPS and VHSL requirements
Maintain team records, match statistics, and inventory of equipment (buzzer systems, supplies, etc.)
Model good sportsmanship and uphold
RCHS/RCPS
standards of conduct
Attend required coaches' meetings, trainings, and complete VHSL/VDOE-mandated certifications
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills and/or Abilities Required)
Some experience as a coach or assistant coach at the high school or college level is preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students. High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Strong general knowledge base across core academic subjects
Preferred:
Prior experience participating or coaching Scholastic Bowl, Quiz Bowl, or Academic Team
Experience working with high-school-age students
Familiarity with VHSL Scholastic Bowl rules and format
