• The EH&S Asbestos & Lead Instructor is a full-time position responsible for delivering accredited training programs in asbestos, lead, and select environmental, health, and safety (EHS) topics. This position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Cal/OSHA, and

U.S. EPA

requirements. The Instructor must possess and maintain all relevant certifications, adhere to approved training agendas, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of training documentation. This role serves as a subject matter expert and leader in the classroom, supporting high standards of instructional excellence. The Instructor exercises professional judgment in applying approved curriculum, managing classroom dynamics, responding to student comprehension, and ensuring real-time compliance with regulatory training requirements. While instruction must strictly follow mandated agendas, the Instructor plays a critical role in maintaining regulatory compliance and delivering consistent, high-quality instruction across California. As-needed/part-time positions may also be available for the right candidate(s), but must have weekday availability.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver accredited Lead and Asbestos training courses in accordance with CDPH, Cal/OSHA Title 8 §1529, and EPA Model Accreditation Plan (MAP) requirements. Teach a variety of courses, including Asbestos Worker/Supervisor Initial and Refresher, Lead Worker/Supervisor, Inspector/Assessor, and related EHS programs, based on applicable regulatory approvals, qualifications, and teaching experience. Travel throughout the assigned region, including Southern or Northern California, as needed for in-person training assignments. Work at various client and training locations, including early start times, weekends, and occasional overnight travel as required. Maintain flexibility with varying class schedules to meet client and regulatory requirements. Ensure strict adherence to required training hours, course agendas, regulatory content, hands-on exercises, examinations, and documentation requirements. Facilitate engaging, interactive, and compliant classroom instruction while maintaining applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations, including updates from Cal/OSHA, CDPH, and EPA, and incorporate regulatory changes into instruction as appropriate. Submit required training documentation, including rosters, sign-in sheets, examinations, evaluations, and certificates, within 24 hours of course completion, with electronic rosters submitted the same day. Perform quality control checks of assigned training materials and equipment, including manuals, hands-on components, and instructor materials. Coordinate with administrative and training personnel regarding classroom logistics, student concerns, scheduling, and course-specific requirements. Maintain all required Lead and Asbestos instructor certifications and credentials as mandated by California and EPA requirements. Attend required instructor meetings and participate in ongoing professional development. Support curriculum updates and provide written recommendations for course improvements within applicable accreditation requirements. Participate in course development and other training-related projects as assigned. Prepare classroom materials and equipment, including lifting and transporting items weighing up to 40 pounds. Exercise professional judgment during hands-on training exercises to ensure student safety, regulatory compliance, and instructional integrity. Monitor classroom pacing and student comprehension in real time to ensure required content and course agendas are completed. Support regulatory audits and compliance reviews by maintaining accurate and timely course records and documentation. Identify and report gaps in training materials, equipment, or processes and provide recommendations for improvement within applicable accreditation requirements. Requirements Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in asbestos, lead, and environmental health and safety fields. Possess and maintain valid California-accredited Asbestos and Lead Instructor Certifications as required by CalOSHA, CDPH and EPA. Demonstrated understanding of Cal/OSHA Title 8 §1529, EPA MAP, and CDPH Lead Certification Program regulations. Experience teaching or managing accredited training programs in lead, asbestos, or related EHS disciplines is preferred. Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or related field is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, PDFs, and digital form tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clean driving record, meeting company insurance eligibility requirements. Physically able to bend, squat, twist, and lift up to 40 pounds for training setup and instruction. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to sit, stand, bend, and operate a computer for extended periods. Ability to perform hands-on demonstrations requiring physical movement, including squatting, twisting, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Ability to drive long distances as required for training assignments. •
