SUMMARY:

Performs emergency service and administrative work at a company level with responsibility for a range of administrative, operational, and technical activities and related work as required. Responsible for properly interpreting and applying applicable policies and procedures to the functions of the fire department. Takes immediate direction from supervising Captain of the assigned crew.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strong work ethic associated with being a member of a team Conducts line duties associated with emergency service delivery to include fire attack and suppression, motor vehicle accidents, technical special operations incidents, wildfire suppression, mass casualty incidents, emergency medical services, and performs all duties as assigned by the Shift Captain. Authors fire reports on a weekly basis to ensure accuracy and completeness of required NFIRS compliance by the department. Responds to, operates in, or commands emergency incidents as required or assigned. Participates in department training associated with the Dammeron Valley Training Center policy. Maintains, cleans, and repairs the fire station, equipment and apparatus. Conducts equipment and apparatus checks as required by department policy. Participates in advanced training as determined by the department. Meets required training and shift/work hours as established by the department. Works safely, follows safe work practices, and identifies and reports unsafe work conditions. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Within 1-year of hire, complete required certifications for Firefighter II, Wildland Firefighter Type 2, and

Emergency Medical Technician, or:

Have an approved Utah state or national accredited (IFSAC or ProBoard) Firefighter I & II certification that conforms to

NFPA 1001

(2008 or 2013 Standards). Have an existing qualification as a wildland firefighter maintained in IQS. Have as existing NREMT certification at the EMT level Completion of an

ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS

700 and ICS 800 courses, approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other County departments, subordinates, vendors, contractors, external government agencies and organizations. Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing. Valid Utah driver's license.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

May require frequent lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 125 pounds as necessary during emergency response; work requires grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities. Also requires walking, running, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling over terrain and buildings as necessary during emergency response.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed in both office and field settings. Requires frequent driving. Frequent night and weekend shift duties are necessary. Frequent exposure to potentially hazardous physical stress, fire, adverse weather, and hazardous substance is required. The worker will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, exposure to blood borne pathogens, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus. Regular contact with the public, external civic and volunteer organizations; volunteer fire officers; and various government agencies is required.
