The NMDOJ exercises the responsibilities delegated by the New Mexico Constitution, statutes enacted by the New Mexico Legislature, and the common law. The Attorney General has primary authority for enforcement of consumer protection and antitrust laws, prosecution of criminal appeals and some complex white-collar crimes, training and certification of peace officers, and most natural resource and environmental matters. Additionally, the New Mexico Department of Justice works concurrently with New Mexico's 13 district attorneys and other local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to carry out its criminal justice responsibilities and activities. The Intake and Constituent Services Division often serves as the first point of contact for the people of New Mexico with the NMDOJ. We are responsible for receiving complaints, inquiries, and requests for assistance from the public. The Intake and Constituent Services Division also serves as a central hub for the NMDOJ, directing matters to the divisions that are best suited to handle them. We play a critical role in ensuring that the NMDOJ remains responsive to the needs of the public and is able to effectively fulfill its mission. How does it get done? Consumer Investigative Liaisons are the first point of contact to aid constituents from across the state seeking help from the NMDOJ. They review and investigate consumer complaints submitted to our office. When appropriate, Consumer Investigative Liaisons contact parties to the complaint in an effort to help the parties come to mutually beneficial resolutions. They also direct individuals to resources outside the NMDOJ, sometimes referring matters to external agencies; they are sometimes called upon to reach out to the community and provide education about trending consumer issues through public presentations. They also provide administrative support to the Intake and Constituent Services Division as needed. All of this is done in a professional, kind, and diplomatic manner in an effort to support the mission of the NMDOJ. Who are the customers? Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment as some statewide travel maybe required.
