NOTICE OF VACANCY

Town Justice - Town of Cortlandville The Town of Cortlandville is accepting applications for appointment to the position of Town Justice to fill a vacancy that occurred prior to September 20, 2026.

Appointment:

The Town Board will appoint a qualified individual to serve as Town Justice through December 31, 2027. The position will be subject to election at the November 02, 2027, General Election, with the newly elected Town Justice beginning a new four-year term on January 01, 2028.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must: Be at least 18 years of age; Be a United States citizen; Be a resident of New York State; Be a resident of the Town of Cortlandville; and Meet all other applicable requirements for holding public office under New York State law. An attorney's license is not required to serve as Town Justice.

Training Requirements:

A newly appointed Town Justice who is not admitted to practice law in New York must complete the first available Basic Course of judicial training, followed by the required Advanced Course. Training includes anti-bias education and applicable examination requirements. Newly appointed attorneys must complete the required judicial education and training applicable to attorneys serving as Town Justices.
