The duties of a Detective are as follows, but not limited to:

Detects, identifies, apprehends, and assists in the prosecution of violent and non-violent criminal offendersCollects, analyzes and verifies information received during an investigationWrites affidavits and search warrantsExecutes and supervises search warrants, and arrest warrantsTakes charge of crime scenes under investigationUses education, training, and experience to determine if probable cause exists for arrest warrants, and executes arrests without warrants when appropriateRecognizes, collects, processes and preserves physical evidence for courtDiagrams scenes, takes photographs, lifts latent fingerprints, gathers and collects evidenceCompletes written reports and testifies in courtTakes call for crime scene and investigation call outMinimum QualificationsMinimum qualifications for this position:

At least 5 years of law enforcement experienceSelf‑motivated and driven to get the job doneExperience writing reports, affidavits, and search warrantsNo Brady and Giglio issuesCurrent Kansas law enforcement certification or eligible for reciprocity from another stateCurrently employed as a law enforcement officer or recently separatedMust have a valid driver's licenseNo felony convictions, and pass a background checkMust pass a drug, hearing, and physical agility testingSalary - Depends on qualificationsBenefits - Jefferson County is located in North East, Kansas between Topeka, Lawrence, Leavenworth, and Atchison. It is home to Perry Lake, with a population of around 18,500 people. Jefferson County offers extremely competitive health insurance packages with Blue Cross of Kansas, and is on KP&F retirement.
