SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Directly supervised by the Deputy Patrol Sergeant.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Oversees work efforts and deployment of Reserve Officers. May be assigned to oversee and manage special enforcement operations as assigned/approved by the Chief Deputy or Sheriff.

DUTIES:

• Maintains law and order and serves legal processes of courts.
• Patrols assigned areas to enforce laws, investigate crimes, and arrest violators.
• Drives vehicle through assigned areas, observing traffic violations and issuing citations.
• Assumes control at traffic accidents to maintain traffic flow, assist accident victims, and investigate cause of accidents.
• Investigates illegal or suspicious activities of persons, quells disturbances, and arrest law violators.
• Locates and takes persons into custody on arrest warrants.
• May operate radio to deliver instructions to patrol units.
• May assist in dragging river and lake to locate bodies.
• May assist other agencies with criminal matters and related investigations.
• Collects and photographs physical evidence and fingerprints to identify criminals.
• May testify in court regarding cases worked or evidence collected.
• May perform duties of dispatcher/communications officer should need arises.
• If licensed as a TCOLE instructor, may instruct state mandated police training courses.
• Round up stray animals or livestock and locate owners of process same according to state Estray Laws or other laws governing such animals.
• Submits written reports to supervisor on disposition of assigned cases or incidents involving officer's intervention.
• Will be subject to work any shift, days, or hours designated by supervisor or as necessary to provide for the safety of the public.
• Advises supervisor(s) of unusual, sensitive and/or dangerous situations, both to keep them informed and to receive instruction.
• Reviews and corrects offense/incident reports.
• Assists in operations, such as surveillance, raids, and arrests.
• As situation dictate, may have to work all various hours of the day, night, weekends, or holidays to ensure the mission of the Sheriff's Office and the safety of the public are met and provided for.
• These duties are not all-inclusive as there are too many existing variables which may require the time and attention of the Patrol Division Lieutenant in addition to tasks and duties which may potentially be assigned by the Chief or Sheriff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a licensed Texas Peace Officer.
• Must be of good moral character.
• Must have strong working knowledge of Criminal, Civil, and Labor Laws.
• Ability to comprehend and apply federal, state, and county criminal and traffic laws; department directives; and county government administrative procedures and personnel regulations.
• Ability to quickly analyze problems and situations and take decisive and effective action.
• 21-years of age
• High School Graduate or equivalent
• Must be a U.S Citizen
• Possess a valid Texas Driver's License Experience in Emergency Management Response Preferred.
