The Police Department provides for the safety and well-being of the faculty, staff, students, and visitors through crime prevention and control, enforcement of state and federal laws, criminal investigation, traffic and parking supervision, and other services and duties related to maintaining public order. Respond to and investigate incidents on campus necessitating police involvement, including vehicle accidents, security and safety incidents, and criminal activity. Enforce criminal and traffic laws, make arrests, and issue summons as required. Provide security to College community, including escorting individuals to vehicles late at night and securing college buildings. Detect and report hazardous conditions, including but not limited to potholes, road obstructions, and other dangers. In order to perform these essential functions, the Police Officer must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential function. Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent. Some post-secondary education preferred. Minimum two years of related work experience. Must have APOST certification. Must have knowledge of the city, state, and federal laws. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to deal effectively with the public in emergency situations. Must have knowledge of first aid and CPR. Must maintain the level of physical fitness required to perform typical police duties. Must have a valid Alabama driver's license.
