Position Details South Barrington Lateral Police Officer

South Barrington is home to several notable destinations, including The Arboretum Lifestyle Shopping Center, a 24-screen AMC Theatre, and Willow Creek Community Church, one of the largest congregations in the United States. The community is also home to Goebbert's Farm and Garden Center, which hosts its popular Fall Festival each year, attracting thousands of visitors and serving as a cherished family tradition. These attractions contribute to a vibrant community that keeps our department actively engaged in service.
The South Barrington Police Department currently consists of 20 full-time police officers, 5 part-time officers, two full-time records clerks, and one full-time administrative assistant. The Village serves a population of 5,077 residents within approximately eight square miles and operates as a home-rule community.
Village ordinance requires that applicants be a certified police officers in good standing, as recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board under Section 8.1 of the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705/8.1), and must meet the following additional requirements:
Currently working as a full-time police officer for an Illinois law enforcement agency; or
Retired as a full-time officer from an Illinois law enforcement agency; or
Laid off as a full-time officer from an Illinois law enforcement agency
Requirements:
- At least 21 years old
- United States citizen
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university OR an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military
- Valid driver's license
- At least two (2) years of experience as a full-time sworn, certified law enforcement officer with an Illinois law enforcement agency
- State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
