Job Description

To enforce all local, state and federal laws on Mississippi Valley State University. Perform all duties of police officer as well as supervise, coordinate and guide police officers and other department employees in their daily activities. Supervise police officers in the performance of regularly assigned patrol and incident investigations; prepare shift notices and assignments; conduct pre-hire evaluations of prospective police officer candidates; conduct performance evaluations; make recommendations in matters concerning employee discipline and retention. Review police documentation including incident and accident reports and daily logs for accuracy and compliance with criminal, motor vehicle and traffic laws with University regulations. Assist shift commanders in establishing procedures; makes recommendations regarding improvements or changes in department operations. Conduct accident and crime investigations and prepare detailed reports, including State Motor Vehicle Accident Reports and State Uniform Incident Reports. Provide public assistance, including lockout services, escorts, first aid, and vehicle jump-starts. Process evidence, prepare court documents, and provide legal testimony. Conduct inspections of police personnel and equipment; issues and account for police equipment. Represent the department at community and business meetings. Serve as Campus Security Authority as outline by Clery Act. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
