The Rockdale Police Department is seeking to hire TCOLE certified Peace Officers. Salary range is from $25.96-27.36/hr depending on qualifications, education, and certifications. The City of Rockdale offers the following employment benefits: TMRS retirement (City match 2:1) Paid employee health care with avail vision & dental 80 hrs paid vacation/yr Optional overtime pay/compensation time TCOLE certification/education pay Take-home vehicle program within 35 miles of city limits All uniforms & police equipment furnished 12 hr shifts with alternating weekends off $5,000.00 sign on bonus for TCOLE certified officers (with 2-year commitment) To be successful as Rockdale Police Officer, applicants should be self-motivated, able to perform a broad range of law enforcement responsibilities, establish a relationship of trust among the citizens we serve and members of our department. An outstanding Police Officer should be able to lead by example and confidently assume command when necessary. Function Description / Police Officer Conduct day/night patrol operations and enforce municipal, state, and federal criminal statutes, works weekends, and holidays; may be required to work extended shifts; and will be subject to emergency callout Conduct initial criminal investigations Gather information and complete timely and accurate reports Respond to calls for service Make arrests as necessary Effectively communicate needs of patrol division to department supervisors Conduct monthly patrol vehicle inspection Operate Multi-Function Radio Monitors radio frequencies of field response personnel Multi - Tasking Monitor jail inmates and ensure all court paperwork is complete for all arrestees Attend shift briefings and law enforcement training Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Adhere to department/city policies and procedures Perform data entry of logs and records regarding officer activities, including traffic stops, suspicious vehicles, people, and incidents, ensuring officer safety Testify as a witness in trials or formal hearings, and provides trial assistance to lead attorney as requested Assist the general public with questions in person and over the phone, giving direction when needed Perform other work-related duties as assigned Required Physical Abilities Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting Ability to use hands & fingers to handle or feel Ability to reach with hands & arms Ability to climb & balance Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch & crawl Ability to speak, hear, taste & smell Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to see near & far (corrective lenses included) Ability to identify and distinguish colors Required Qualifications Current TCOLE Peace Officer Certification Possess current Texas Drivers License Ability to pass all department firearms qualifications Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of experience as full-time law enforcement officer Experience in conducting criminal investigations Ability to operate Microsoft Office, Word, Excell, power point, etc.
