Promotion potential to VA-Accredited Claims Agent with increased pay and bonus eligibility About Lang's Legal Lang's Legal is a growing law firm dedicated to helping Veterans and their families navigate the VA disability compensation system. The firm represents Veterans nationwide and is led by VA-accredited attorney Matthew Lang, a former Department of Veterans Affairs employee. We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented person who wants to begin or develop a career helping Veterans. Prior VA claims experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right person. This position is designed as an entry-level opportunity with the potential to grow into a VA-accredited claims agent. Advancement is based on demonstrated ability, reliability, professional development, successful completion of VA accreditation requirements, available caseload, and the needs of the firm. Responsibilities The VA Claims Assistant will work under attorney supervision and assist with the administrative and organizational aspects of VA disability claims and appeals.
Responsibilities may include:
Communicating professionally and respectfully with Veterans. Gathering information and documents from clients. Requesting medical records, service records, and other evidence. Organizing and labeling electronic claims files. Reviewing VA correspondence to identify dates, issues, and deadlines. Preparing preliminary case summaries for attorney review. Assisting with questionnaires, personal statements, and evidence-development requests. Preparing draft forms and correspondence for attorney approval. Tracking VA examinations, evidence requests, appeal deadlines, and case status. Maintaining accurate notes, documents, and tasks in Clio. Uploading documents through approved VA and firm systems. Helping ensure clients receive timely updates. Performing other administrative and legal-support duties under attorney supervision. The employee will not independently provide legal advice or represent Veterans before VA unless and until authorized to do so through VA accreditation and the firm. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: Strong attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Compassion and patience when working with Veterans. The ability to follow written procedures and meet deadlines. Good organization and time-management skills. Comfort using computers, electronic files, email, and online systems. The ability to maintain strict confidentiality. A willingness to learn VA disability law and claims procedures. The ability to accept feedback and work under attorney supervision. A high school diploma or equivalent. The following are preferred but not required: Experience in a law office, Veterans organization, healthcare setting, or government agency. Paralegal education or certification. Familiarity with VA disability claims. Military service or experience working with Veterans. Experience with Clio, Google Workspace, Microsoft Windows, or similar programs. Compensation and Benefits Starting pay of $20 per hour . Approximately 20 hours per week . Performance-based bonus opportunity. Training in VA disability claims and appeals. Regular performance and compensation reviews. Potential pay increases based on demonstrated competency and expanded responsibilities. Opportunity to pursue VA accreditation. Promotion potential to a VA-Accredited Claims Agent position with higher hourly compensation and increased bonus eligibility. Bonuses are not guaranteed and are based on factors such as firm performance, quality of work, timeliness, client service, compliance with firm procedures, and overall contribution to the VA practice. Bonuses are not based solely on whether VA grants or denies a particular claim. VA Accreditation Career Path A successful employee may be invited to enter the firm's VA-accreditation track. Lang's Legal may provide mentorship, training, study resources, and assistance with the accreditation process. VA accreditation is determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs and generally requires an application, character-and-fitness approval, successful completion of the VA claims-agent examination, and continuing education. Employment does not guarantee accreditation or promotion. Once accredited and approved for an expanded role within the firm, the employee may become eligible to: Manage an assigned VA caseload. Communicate with VA concerning assigned matters. Develop claims and appellate strategies. Prepare substantive legal and factual arguments. Participate in conferences and other VA proceedings. Receive a higher hourly wage. Participate at an increased level in the firm's VA practice bonus program.
