If you've spent a year or two cutting your teeth on employment litigation or labor matters at a firm and you're hungry for broader ownership, direct business impact, and a role where you're not just billing hours — this is your on-ramp. You'll be joining a Southern California-headquartered company with 5,000+ employees and operations spread across the country. Employment law isn't a side concern here — it's front and center. You'll be the dedicated employment and labor anchor on the legal team, working directly alongside the General Counsel and serving as their go-to on all things labor, employment, and workforce risk. This is a role where you'll grow fast, get real exposure, and have the mentorship of an experienced GC behind you. What You'll Own Employment Law — Day to Day — You'll be the internal subject matter expert on employment matters across a multi-state, high-headcount workforce. Wage and hour, leave laws, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, reductions in force — you'll know this space and own it. Risk Mitigation — You'll identify employment-related legal risk early and help the organization get ahead of it. You think proactively, not just reactively. HR Partnership — You'll work closely and collaboratively with the HR team, serving as their trusted legal resource. You'll help shape policies, advise on employee relations matters, and provide real-time guidance on complex situations as they arise. Internal Investigations — You'll partner with the internal investigation team on workplace complaints, misconduct allegations, and sensitive HR matters, providing legal guidance and ensuring processes are sound. Outside Counsel Management — You'll manage external employment counsel relationships — directing strategy, reviewing work product, and keeping matters on track and on budget. Multi-State Compliance — With employees across the U.S., you'll stay current on the ever-shifting patchwork of state and local employment laws and help the organization stay ahead of compliance obligations. GC Support & Partnership — You'll serve as an extension of the General Counsel, taking direction and guidance from them while operating with real autonomy in your lane. When it comes to labor and employment, you're their right hand. Who You Are An employment-focused attorney who's ready to make the jump in-house and take on real ownership Someone who's been doing the work — whether at a firm, in a government role, or in another legal setting — and knows that they're ready for the next step Comfortable navigating HR dynamics, sensitive workplace matters, and internal investigations with professionalism and good judgment A self-starter who doesn't need every answer handed to them but knows when to ask for guidance Someone who can communicate legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers — HR leaders, managers, and executives will rely on you Organized, responsive, and able to manage multiple matters across different states simultaneously Collaborative by nature — you work well with others but you're also comfortable running point What We're Looking For JD from an accredited law school; active bar membership required — California bar preferred or willingness to obtain Employment and labor law experience is the core requirement — we care about your focus area and your drive, not your years on paper Associates with 1-3 years of employment law experience at a firm are strongly encouraged to apply — this role was built with your trajectory in mind Exposure to multi-state employment law issues is a plus, but a strong California employment background with the ability to scale is equally valued Experience advising on or conducting workplace investigations is a plus Comfort managing outside employment counsel and holding them accountable to strategy and budget Strong written and verbal communication skills — you'll be interfacing with HR and leadership regularly A genuine interest in going in-house and building something, not just filling a seat Why this Role You'll get real work, real mentorship, and real room to grow. The GC you'll report to is hands-on and invested in your development — you won't be thrown to the wolves, but you will be challenged. As the company continues to grow its national footprint, so does the scope of this role. If you're an employment attorney ready to trade billable hour targets for genuine impact and a long-term career path, this is the opportunity to make that move. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities throughout the application and employment process.
