Job Description
The City of South Lake Tahoe is seeking a City Attorney, this highly visible executive leadership position that serves as the chief legal advisor to the City of South Lake Tahoe. Appointed by and working under the general administrative direction of the City Council, the City Attorney provides trusted legal counsel to the City Council, City Manager, Planning Commission, City boards and commissions, and departments throughout the organization. As a Department Director and member of the City's Senior Management Team, the City Attorney also plays an important role in strategic policy discussions, organizational problem-solving, and supporting the City's broader goals and priorities. The City Attorney provides comprehensive legal services across a wide range of municipal matters, including California municipal law, land use, redevelopment, labor and employment, liability, administrative and constitutional law, contracts, and code enforcement. The position researches, drafts, and reviews contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents; monitors court decisions and legislative developments affecting City operations; and provides day-to-day legal guidance to the City Manager and City departments. The City Attorney is supported by a dedicated team within the City Attorney's Office, including an Assistant City Attorney, Risk Manager, and Paralegal, who provide essential legal, risk management, and administrative support.
