Job Description

The Lake Attorney's Office is accepting applications for: Deputy County Attorney
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to the Montana State. Must be knowledgeable in Criminal Law, Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure, Rules of Evidence, the principles of trial advocacy and applicable law and court procedures and applicable rules; must be proficient with computers, on-line legal research and be able to learn and navigate proprietary software programs. Prior prosecutorial or criminal defense experience preferred but not required.
DUTIES:
Prosecute criminal and juvenile offenders; represent the state in child abuse and neglect cases; review investigative reports; make determinations about prosecutions; draft and file charging documents; communicate with victims and law enforcement; interview and prepare witnesses; prepare legal documents; respond to motions and arguments; prepare jury instructions; negotiate plea agreements; conduct legal research; provide legal advice; draft legal opinions; interpret statutes, codes, and ordinances; negotiate with concerned parties; prepare findings of fact and conclusions of law and draft proposed orders; prepare arguments orally and in writing. Establish effective working relationships with law enforcement, legal professionals, fellow employees, supervisors, victims and the public.
HOURS/DAYS
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WAGE:
$95,000 - $101,000 annually, DOE
