We are seeking an experienced, client-focused Family Law Attorney with strong litigation, negotiation, and case-management skills. The attorney will independently manage family law matters from initial strategy through resolution, while providing excellent client service and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. Key Responsibilities Client Representation & Case Strategy Advise clients on family law issues, applicable law, risks, likelihood of success, alternatives, and potential outcomes. Develop case strategies consistent with the client's goals and the applicable law. Analyze financial disclosures, support, property division, custody, parenting, and other family law issues. Explain legal procedures and case developments in clear, understandable terms and provide practical recommendations for resolution. Maintain timely, professional communication with clients, generally responding to calls and emails within 24-48 hours. Provide appropriate resources and support to clients in high-conflict or emotionally sensitive matters, including explaining domestic violence issues when applicable. Pleadings, Research & Case Preparation Conduct necessary legal research and stay current on changes to California law, local rules, Rules of Court, and the Evidence Code. Draft and review pleadings, motions, declarations, judgments, MSAs, PDDs/FDDs, discovery, correspondence, stipulations, settlement agreements, and other legal documents. Prepare cases thoroughly for hearings, settlement, and trial, including evidence, exhibits, witnesses, and legal arguments. Litigation & Court Appearances Represent clients at hearings, RFOs, status conferences, MSCs, settlement conferences, ex parte proceedings, depositions, and trials. Seek or defend domestic violence restraining orders when appropriate. Present evidence, examine and cross-examine witnesses and parties, address evidentiary issues, and make legal arguments at trial. Be fully prepared and on time for every court appearance. Negotiation & Resolution Aggressively and professionally negotiate with opposing counsel and self-represented parties to achieve favorable and practical outcomes. Meet and confer as required to resolve disputes and avoid unnecessary litigation. Identify settlement opportunities and advise clients regarding the costs, benefits, and risks of settlement versus continued litigation. Experts & Referrals Evaluate whether experts or other professionals are needed, including CPAs, actuaries, 730 evaluators, minor's counsel, and appraisers. Discuss the purpose, costs, and benefits of experts with clients and, when appropriate, provide at least two qualified referrals. Case & Firm Management Meet all court, statutory, discovery, and firm deadlines and confirm that deadlines and hearings are properly calendared by support staff. Maintain organized case files and provide clear direction to legal assistants and paralegals. Track billable hours in accordance with management expectations. Review monthly billing at least one day before bills are run to identify and correct any potential billing issues. Attend monthly team meetings and attorney meetings as needed; proactively raise case issues that require attention before the next team meeting. Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times. Professional & Business Development Participate in ongoing family law education and training, including OCBA and other relevant programs. Stay current on legal developments and best practices. Participate in professional networking and business development activities to build and maintain a book of business. Represent the firm professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, and the legal community. Qualifications Active and in good standing with the State Bar of California. Family law experience with litigation and courtroom experience. Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills. Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail. Ability to manage cases independently while working effectively with attorneys and support staff. Strong judgment, professionalism, empathy, and communication skills. Ability to effectively handle high-conflict and emotionally sensitive family law matters. Trial experience preferred. 3-5 years of Family Law specific experience required (CFLS is not mandatory, but preferred).
Job Details Salary:
$120,000 - $200,000 (Dependent on qualifications).
