Associate Attorney Position Summary:
Associate Attorneys are responsible for judicial foreclosure, eviction, bankruptcy defense, and title matters, representing assigned financial institution clients with loss mitigation and asset recovery services. The ideal candidate possesses some knowledge of bankruptcy and how it affects a foreclosure/eviction proceeding, but is not required to have existing experience practicing bankruptcy law. Associate Attorneys are responsible for representing the firm professionally through timeliness and compliant processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong organizational skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.
Associate Attorney Job Responsibilities:
Draft and prepare legal documents for court filing, including but not limited to: FDCPA Letters, Demand Letters, Judicial Complaints, Quiet Title Actions, Plaintiff Complaints, Discovery, Motions, and Responsive Pleadings in defense matters. Represent client interests; provide strategic legal counsel to staff and clients on a variety of issues. Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as LexisNexis. Review court alerts and provide compliance guidance in a timely and accurate manner. Work cross-functionally with other attorneys, legal assistants, support staff, and external vendors. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Juris Doctor (JD) is required from a law school. Admission to the State Bar of Michigan and in good standing. Knowledge of Michigan court procedures and filing requirements. Prior doc review and/or litigation experience preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong analytical and research skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
3-5+ years of relevant experience in foreclosure, eviction, title, collections, and/or creditors' rights. Prior courtroom experience. Prior in-house compliance experience reviewing relevant statutes and case law. Prior experience with CaseAware or a similar case management system.
