Job Description
ATTORNEYS NEEDED FOR CRIMINAL DEFENSE
The Santa Cruz County Superior Court and Justice of the Peace is opening its indigent defense list to all qualified attorneys. Significant need for counsel in felonies, misdemeanors, and appeals. Attorneys must either be bilingual or arrange for Spanish-language interpreters when needed outside of court. Interpreter costs are not reimbursed and are considered part of the attorney's overhead. Attorneys are compensated at $95/hour for criminal felony and misdemeanor cases, and $80/hour for all other case types. Bonuses may be available (see contract for details): Felony Criminal Cases- $300 Juvenile Dependency Cases
- $750 Mental Health Cases
- $250 Attorneys who are appointed to the list are subject to removal at the discretion of the Presiding Judge if, in the Presiding Judge's judgment, the attorneys are not meeting expectations.
