This is a litigation-heavy, hands-on position for an attorney with exceptional legal research and drafting skills who is comfortable independently handling complex commercial disputes. The attorney will be actively involved in matters from initial investigation and pleadings through discovery, motion practice, depositions, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. The position is primarily remote with minimal in-office requirements . Occasional attendance at the Trenton, New Jersey office may be required for meetings, case preparation, or other business needs. Court appearances, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings may also require travel. Candidates must be admitted to practice and in good standing in both New York and New Jersey. Responsibilities Manage a diverse caseload of complex commercial litigation and business disputes from inception through resolution. Draft and revise complaints, answers, counterclaims, motions, briefs, memoranda of law, affidavits, discovery demands, discovery responses, subpoenas, deposition outlines, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents. Conduct sophisticated legal research and prepare clear, persuasive written analysis. Take an active role in developing litigation strategy, factual theories, claims, and defenses. Handle all aspects of written discovery, including interrogatories, document demands, responses and objections, document productions, and discovery deficiency correspondence. Prepare substantive motions and briefs, including dispositive motions and other complex motion practice. Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, conferences, and court appearances. Review and analyze large volumes of documents, financial records, correspondence, contracts, and other evidence. Develop case chronologies, factual records, and supporting evidence for claims and defenses. Conduct pre-litigation investigations and evaluate potential claims, defenses, damages, and recovery strategies. Work directly with executives, internal legal staff, outside counsel, experts, consultants, and other litigation professionals. Coordinate with outside counsel while remaining actively involved in substantive drafting and litigation strategy. Negotiate settlements and assist with alternative dispute resolution. Monitor court deadlines, discovery obligations, filing requirements, and case developments across multiple active matters. Provide practical legal advice regarding litigation risk, collections, contractual disputes, and other matters affecting the family office and its affiliated businesses. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Active admission and good standing with both the New York and New Jersey Bars required. Approximately 5-6 years of substantive litigation experience , preferably involving complex commercial litigation, business disputes, collections, fraud, financial disputes, or related civil litigation. Exceptional legal research, writing, and drafting skills are required. Demonstrated ability to independently draft sophisticated pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery demands and responses, and other substantive litigation documents. Strong knowledge of New York and New Jersey civil practice and procedure. Experience managing discovery, document productions, subpoenas, and deposition preparation. Experience taking or defending depositions and appearing in court is strongly preferred. Ability to analyze complex factual and financial records and translate findings into effective litigation strategy and persuasive written work. Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple matters and competing deadlines. Excellent judgment, attention to detail, communication skills, and professional discretion. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on litigator and exceptional legal writer who wants significant substantive responsibility and ownership over cases. The attorney should be comfortable receiving a complex factual record, identifying the relevant legal issues, conducting the necessary research, developing a litigation strategy, and producing a strong first draft of a complaint, motion, brief, discovery demand, or other substantive filing with limited supervision. Experience in commercial litigation, complex civil disputes, financial and business disputes, collections, discovery, and motion practice is particularly desirable. Work Arrangement This position is primarily remote , allowing the attorney to work from home for the majority of the workweek. Minimal in-person attendance may be required at the company's Trenton, New Jersey office , as well as for court appearances, depositions, mediations, hearings, meetings, or other case-related proceedings.
