Job Description:
Senior Derivatives Counsel - Elite Buy-side Firm We are partnering with a leading proprietary trading firm that is seeking a Senior Derivatives Counsel to join their New York office. This firm has experienced tremendous trading revenue growth in recent years, and this is an expansion hire to help support their continued growth. This individual will play a lead role in advising the business on legal matters pertaining to securities trading across all asset classes, drafting/negotiating derivatives documentation and prime brokerage agreements, and regulatory implications related to trading activities. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic lawyer who can operate effectively in a fast-paced trading environment and provide solutions-oriented legal advice that supports the firm's business objectives. You are joining a firm that has strong employee retention rates due to its high collaborative culture, and they also offer hybrid working flexibility.
Responsibilities:
Lead the negotiation, drafting, and management of complex trading and financing agreements, including: ISDA Master Agreements, Schedules, Credit Support Annexes, Prime Brokerage Agreements, Futures and Clearing Documentation, etc. Advise trading desks on the legal and commercial implications of new products, trading strategies, and market initiatives Serve as a trusted advisor to traders, portfolio managers, quantitative researchers, treasury professionals, and senior management Support the structuring and documentation of bespoke derivatives, financing, and capital markets transactions Provide legal guidance regarding U.S. and global derivatives regulations Manage external counsel on specialized legal matters
Qualifications:
Law degree from an accredited university Experience in relevant law firm or in-house environments 7+ years of legal experience, ideally handling derivatives or trading matters Strong understanding of equity, commodity, FX, fixed income, and digital asset derivatives Strong commercial judgment and business-oriented thinking If interested, please do not hesitate to apply and we will be in touch for a confidential discussion.
