The purpose of this job is to engage families and the community in the education process of their children to support academic achievement and success of students. Normal Park Museum Magnet is a PreK-8 zoned magnet school located in Chattanooga, TN. Normal Park partners with six area museums and other local businesses to enhance each student's learning experience. We believe in teaching the whole child through engaging lessons which foster inquiry and exploration, while also maintaining focus on the emotional and social health of each student. Our students take weekly learning expeditions to our museum partners to build a deeper understanding of standards. Project based learning allows teachers to be creative with their lessons and students to consider ways to solve real world problems. We have a supportive parent community who volunteer at the school, provide additional funds for resources, and additional support for students. We have recently been awarded STEM Designation and our Tennessee Civic Seal. We look for teachers with an excitement and spark for teaching. We desire candidates who thrive on collaboration and are also willing and confident to share new ideas. As the only prek-8 public school in town, we are able to offer relationships with students over several years and teachers can support students inside and outside the classroom. Responsibilities Acts in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner at all times. Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders. Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. Facilitates the development and implementation of a School-Family-Community Partnership Plan that is directly connected and completely interwoven with the school improvement plan and student achievement. Identifies and organizes a representative mix of community members and school staff to make up an Action Team that will develop and carry out the School-Family-Community Partnership Plan that engages families to achieve school improvement goals. Implements strategies towards measurable goals to improve student achievement and uses approved criteria to measure success. Maintains data that administrators and outside auditors can review to determine if the program components are directly connected to improving student academic achievement and the components are having a positive impact on academic achievement. Coordinates an extended-day tutorial program utilizing community-based organizations, teachers, and other community resources that yields measurable academic improvement. Plans and/or conducts workshops and trainings for parents and teachers to increase their capacity to work together on student achievement and school improvement goals. Uses student and school data to communicate information about academic achievement to families. Promotes two-way communication between school and home. Stays abreast of school issues by attending school improvement team, grade level team, and faculty meetings. Conducts home visits with identified families to discuss progress, issues, and concerns. Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature. Follows established procedures to ensure assigned areas are safe. Works collaboratively with all stakeholders. Attends work and arrives to work on time. Maintains confidentiality. Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law. Uses computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions. May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities. Must be able to work flexible hours. Performs other duties as assigned.
