We are a family-oriented law firm with a fun and friendly atmosphere. We strive to help our employees excel in their work through guidance, training, and support. Job purpose The legal assistant is a primary point of contact for clients and is an integral part of the Legal Department that is responsible for providing red-carpet service to existing clients. The legal assistant is tasked with assisting criminal defense attorneys with all case-related needs that include but are not limited to preparing legal documents, updating databases, and contacting courts and various other agencies. The legal assistant also prepares and maintains our clients' files in an organized manner ensuring the attorney is well prepared for court. It is a full-time position.

Skills and Qualifications Associate degree:

Required 1-2 years of prior office experience, preferred Court calendaring and client management experience (able to interact and maintain open lines of communication), preferred Ability to handle multiple ongoing assignments/cases and properly establish priorities Exceptional written skills with the ability to take excellent notes Solid verbal communication skills with the ability to speak with clients via phone to gather case information Ability to ensure all work is completed in a timely fashion and tasks are followed through Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and notetaking skills Tech savvy /computer literate

Bilingual:

Proficient in Spanish (reading, speaking, and writing)

Duties and Responsibilities Handling all calls as they relate to the firm's existing and prospective clients, and contacting/establishing rapport with prosecutor's office, court clerks, DAs, and various other agencies to gather case information, as necessary. Creating, opening, and maintaining case files from beginning to end, and reviewing/confirming information is correct. Maintaining and updating clients' database and case information by accurately taking and keeping notes. Accurately reviewing court date notes, ensuring all tasks have been created, and reviewing attorneys' needs for clients. Assisting in the preparation of mitigation packets and motions. Other duties as assigned. Physical requirements Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time, and infrequently move items weighing up to 10 pounds across the office for various needs; to do substantial and repetitive movements/motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; to have close visual acuity to view a computer terminal; and to move around the office varying distances; to reach, push, pull, talk, hear, as needed. Work is performed in an internal office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Direct reports :

$21.00 - $27.00 per hour depending on legal assistant experience
