Job Description

Litigation Paralegal or Legal Administrative Assistant Hoss Law, APC — Granite Bay, CA | Full-time, on-site | Hourly, overtime eligible Litigation Paralegal $30 -$40/hr

• Legal Administrative Assistant $21-$31/hr Hoss Law, APC is a boutique litigation firm. We have been in Placer County since our inception and we serve clients throughout the greater Sacramento area. Our work is California domestic relations cases, personal and tortious injury, and federal civil rights litigation. We try our cases. We do not refer the hard ones out. Other firms refer their trial cases to us. Two things define this office. We believe in exceptional client service and we care about our cases — people come to us at the hardest moments of their lives, we answer the phone, we know the file, and every case gets treated like it matters. And we look out for each other. We are a good-natured group that operates like a family. We cover for each other, and we genuinely enjoy the company. That is why people stay. The role. We are hiring one person — as a Litigation Paralegal or a Legal Administrative Assistant, depending on your experience, education and qualifications.

Litigation Paralegal:

drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery; preparing declarations of disclosure; digesting depositions, medical records, and financial records; legal research; trial preparation; and owning the case calendar.

Legal Administrative Assistant:

client communication, calendaring and deadline tracking, e-filing and service, Judicial Council forms, document preparation, subpoenas and records requests, and file management. You will grow into substantive work as you are ready. If you want to become a paralegal, tell us — we will help you get there. Both include other duties as assigned. In an office this size, that is real. What we need. Extreme organization and attention to detail above all — litigation runs on deadlines and we don't miss them.

Precision in writing:

you catch the wrong date, the transposed figure, the misspelled party name. Absolute discretion — everything here is confidential under Cal. Rule of Professional Conduct 1.6 and Bus. & Prof. Code § 6068(e), permanently. Real technology skills — Microsoft 365, practice management software, Adobe, court e-filing portals, Essential Forms — and the ability to learn new tools without hand-holding.

Ownership:

you see a problem, you raise it or you solve it with extreme attention to detail.

Preferred:

California litigation experience, particularly family law or personal injury; state and federal e-filing including CM/ECF; Judicial Council forms; legal research platforms. Two years of working in a law office and performing legal duties. Paralegal qualification. California restricts the title. You must satisfy a pathway under Bus. & Prof. Code § 6450(c) : an ABA-approved paralegal certificate; a certificate or degree from an accredited institution including at least 24 semester units in law-related courses; or a bachelor's or advanced degree plus one year of supervised law-related experience with a qualifying attorney declaration. Tell us which one applies. If you do not meet a pathway, apply anyway : you are a candidate for the assistant track. Compensation and benefits. Hourly and non-exempt, with overtime per California law. Health Benefits available. 401(k). Paid Vacation, Holiday and Sick Leave. Professional development. Direct trial exposure — we will not keep you away from the interesting work and while the attorney does not need assistance at trial - staff have come to watch. To apply.
