We are a fast-growing law firm seeking a high-performing Legal Assistant for our Shelton, Connecticut law firm. You will support attorneys in active family law and probate matters by managing deadlines, preparing and organizing filings, coordinating with clients, and assisting with general client service. You will play a key role in ensuring cases are handled efficiently, professionally, and on time. This is a hands-on, in-office role for someone who thrives in a high-accountability environment, stays calm under pressure, and consistently follows through.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys with family law and probate case support from inception through resolution. Maintain and update calendars, deadlines, ticklers, and task lists (no missed deadlines—ever). Draft, format, proofread, and finalize legal documents. Coordinate service, filings, and court submissions. Organize and maintain case files (digital and physical), including document naming and folder structure. Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors as needed. Assist with written discovery, document collection, and organization. Track open tasks and follow up until completed. Identify bottlenecks and help us implement process improvements . Ensure attorneys have what they need, when they need it—without last-minute scrambling. Support internal operations as needed to keep the firm running smoothly, including greeting clients, phone coverage, general client service, and intake follow up/scheduling. Experience managing deadlines, filings, and documentation. Strong writing, proofreading, formatting, and document organization skills. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with urgency and accountability. Strong technical competence with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems quickly. Experience with practice management tools (e.g., Clio, MyCase, Caret, or similar). Experience with e-filing systems and litigation support platforms. Positive and professional demeanor on the phone and in person.
Work Location & Schedule:
In-office position (not remote) in Shelton, Connecticut. Standard business hours with flexibility based on case needs. Reliability, punctuality, and responsiveness are essential.
