Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Paralegal to join our firm and take ownership of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 matters from pre-filing preparation through post-petition case administration. Please do not apply if you do not have prior bankruptcy law experience. This is not an entry-level legal assistant position. We are looking for someone who already understands the bankruptcy process, is comfortable working independently, and can manage a caseload while maintaining a high level of accuracy, organization, and client care. The right candidate will be someone who does not simply complete assigned tasks. We want someone who takes ownership of their cases, anticipates what needs to happen next, identifies problems before they become emergencies, and follows matters through to completion. Required Bankruptcy Experience Candidates must have hands-on experience with: Preparing Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions Preparing Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions Bankruptcy schedules and statements Statement of Financial Affairs Means Test preparation and review Reviewing debtor income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and financial documents Gathering and reviewing client documentation Reviewing bank statements, paystubs, tax returns, financial reports, vehicle information, mortgage documents, business records, and other supporting documentation PACER CM/ECF and electronic bankruptcy filings Post-petition bankruptcy procedures Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 case administration 341 Meeting preparation Trustee requests Deficiency notices Court deadlines Reviewing filed claims and case activity Communicating with clients regarding outstanding documents and case requirements Monitoring cases after filing and ensuring required tasks are completed Experience with bankruptcy petition preparation software and legal case-management systems is strongly preferred. Responsibilities The Bankruptcy Paralegal will be responsible for managing bankruptcy matters throughout the life of the case, including: Prepare complete and accurate Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions. Review client questionnaires and supporting documentation for completeness and inconsistencies. Obtain missing documentation from clients and follow up diligently until received. Analyze financial documents before petition preparation. Identify discrepancies, missing information, potential exposures, and issues requiring attorney review. Prepare schedules, statements, means tests, creditor information, exemptions, and other bankruptcy documents. Review petitions carefully before providing them to the attorney for final review. File bankruptcy petitions and related documents through CM/ECF when authorized. Monitor PACER and court dockets for developments, deadlines, notices, deficiencies, and hearings. Handle post-petition case administration for Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 matters. Prepare clients for 341 Meetings of Creditors. Coordinate responses to trustee requests and ensure requested documents are provided timely. Track confirmation requirements and other Chapter 13 deadlines. Communicate with clients throughout their bankruptcy case and provide consistent case updates. Calendar hearings, deadlines, trustee requirements, and internal follow-up dates. Maintain detailed and accurate case notes. Work closely with attorneys to identify potential issues before filing. Follow matters through until discharge, dismissal, confirmation, closing, or other final resolution. Maintain an organized caseload and prioritize matters according to deadlines and urgency. Assist other members of the bankruptcy department and provide leadership when needed. The ideal candidate demonstrates leadership, ownership, and genuine care for the clients they are responsible for. Our clients are often experiencing one of the most stressful financial periods of their lives. We expect our paralegals to communicate with patience and professionalism while still being diligent about obtaining documents, meeting deadlines, and moving cases forward. You should be the type of person who sees a problem and works toward resolving it rather than simply passing it along. If a client has not provided documents, you follow up. If a deadline is approaching, you know about it. If something in a petition does not make sense, you investigate it. If an issue requires attorney attention, you communicate it clearly and promptly. We are looking for someone who sees things through. Minimum Qualifications Minimum 3 years of law firm experience required Prior bankruptcy law experience required Chapter 7 petition preparation experience required Chapter 13 petition preparation experience required Post-petition bankruptcy experience required PACER experience required Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Microsoft 365 Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work full-time in the office Important Please do not apply if you do not have bankruptcy experience. This position requires someone who can step into an active bankruptcy practice and contribute immediately. We are specifically seeking candidates who already understand Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 case preparation, PACER, post-petition responsibilities, document gathering, deadlines, and bankruptcy case management. This is a demanding position with significant responsibility, but it also provides an opportunity for the right person to become a key member of the firm, take leadership within the bankruptcy department, and grow professionally.
