A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.
This position supports prospective and current international students while assisting the academic and management teams. The employee will maintain student records in accordance with school policies, accreditation requirements, SEVP regulations, and current F-1 rules. The position also includes preparing immigration cases and documents under the supervision of a licensed attorney.
Desirable candidates:
Candidates should have paralegal experience or relevant training, experience in customer service, and knowledge of
SEVIS, SEVP
regulations, and F-1 student requirements. Previous experience as a DSO or immigration paralegal, a college degree or paralegal certificate, experience abroad, and proficiency in a second language are preferred. To serve as a DSO, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident and meet all SEVP requirements for formal designation.

The candidate must be able to work independently, manage deadlines, maintain confidential records, explain complex information clearly, and recognize when a matter must be referred to the PDSO or supervising attorney.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include assisting with immigration filings under attorney supervision, gathering and organizing documentation, drafting forms and supporting materials for attorney review, tracking deadlines, and maintaining confidential case files. DSO responsibilities include maintaining accurate and timely SEVIS records, issuing and updating Forms I-20, monitoring enrollment and F-1 status requirements, and processing transfers, program extensions, withdrawals, reduced course loads, travel endorsements, and eligible employment or practical training requests. The employee will also monitor Form I-94 expiration dates and applicable requirements under current F-1 regulations. All individualized legal advice and complex immigration matters must be referred to the supervising attorney.
