Position Summary The Legal Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to attorneys and the law firm. The primary responsibilities are maintaining and organizing electronic and paper files, answering and directing telephone calls, electronically filing pleadings and discovery, preparing and mailing correspondence, and assisting with general office and case-management tasks. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Organize, maintain, and update electronic and paper case files. , name, organize, and retrieve documents in the firm's document-management system. Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and route calls to the appropriate attorney or staff member. Electronically file pleadings, motions, discovery, notices, and other documents with courts and other applicable filing systems. Prepare documents for electronic filing, including converting documents to appropriate formats and confirming filing requirements. File and organize incoming and outgoing discovery. Prepare, copy, scan, assemble, and mail letters, pleadings, discovery, and other legal correspondence. Maintain accurate mailing lists, addresses, and case-related contact information. Monitor and organize incoming and outgoing mail and electronic correspondence. Assist attorneys with routine administrative and case-support tasks. Maintain calendars, deadlines, and filing-related reminders as requested. Perform general office duties, including scanning, copying, printing, faxing, and document organization. Maintain confidentiality of client information and firm records. Perform other administrative duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain orderly electronic and paper files. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PDF/document-management software. Ability to learn and use electronic court-filing systems. Accurate typing and data-entry skills. Professional telephone and written communication skills. Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Professional demeanor when interacting with clients, attorneys, courts, opposing counsel, and the public. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a law firm, legal department, court, or other professional office. Familiarity with electronic filing of court documents. Familiarity with legal terminology and basic litigation procedures. Experience working with legal document-management or case-management software.
Pay:
$25.24 - $30.39 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
