College of Law Location College of Law Open Date Aug 13, 2026 Description The University of Oklahoma College of Law seeks a ranked, renewable-term faculty member to teach and supervise students in its Criminal Defense Clinic beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year. This is a non-tenure-track position with a nine-month academic year appointment. The successful candidate will provide intensive, practice-based instruction and supervision as students represent clients in criminal matters. Responsibilities include teaching the classroom component of the clinic; supervising students through all stages of client representation; ensuring compliance with applicable court rules and professional standards; and participating in the intellectual and service life of the College of Law. Ranked, renewable-term faculty members at OU Law serve an initial three-year probationary period under a series of one-year appointments, each covering a nine-month academic-year service period. Before the end of the third year, the faculty member may be considered for appointment to a five-year, presumptively renewable term. Qualifications Applicants must hold a J.D. or equivalent law degree and have substantial relevant legal practice experience. By the beginning of the appointment, the successful candidate must be an active member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar and must remain authorized to practice law in Oklahoma throughout the appointment. The candidate must also satisfy all requirements necessary to supervise licensed legal interns and represent clinic clients in Oklahoma courts. Significant criminal defense experience is required. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellent clinical teaching, close student supervision, ethical and client-centered representation, and service to the profession and community. Prior clinical teaching or experience supervising law students or junior attorneys is strongly preferred. Trial experience, including substantial responsibility for felony matters, is also strongly preferred.
