A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.

Saheli provides programs and services in the areas of domestic & sexual violence, career and economic empowerment, mental health services, legal and immigration support, housing and public benefits assistance. Position Summary The Legal Assistance/Paralegal will provide legal and administrative support to attorneys and clients, including client intake, documentation, case preparation, legal research, referrals, and coordination. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and compassion for clients from diverse backgrounds. Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault, immigration, or family law is highly desirable. Responsibilities Conduct client intakes, gather documentation, and explain available legal services and next steps. Provide trauma-informed communication, identify urgent legal needs, and make appropriate referrals. Assist attorneys with legal documents, applications, forms, case files, research, timelines, and supporting materials. Track case deadlines, appointments, referrals, and follow-ups, and communicate with courts, agencies, attorneys, and service providers as directed. Support language access, including interpretation and translation services. Administrative & Community Support Maintain accurate, confidential client and case records and collect data for grant reporting and program evaluation. Prepare case statistics, reports, and required funder documentation. Collaborate with attorneys, advocates, case managers, and program staff to coordinate services. Participate in meetings, training, outreach, community events, and legal education workshops. Develop relationships with community organizations and legal service providers and maintain knowledge of available resources. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Social Services, or a related field. Experience in paralegal work, legal assistance, advocacy, or social services. Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills with attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and electronic databases. Experience working with immigrant, low-income, LEP, or underserved communities preferred. Experience with immigration, family law, domestic violence, sexual assault, housing, or legal matters preferred. Bilingual/multilingual skills and experience with nonprofit, grant-funded programs, or data reporting preferred. Work Requirements Occasional evening/weekend work and local travel may be required for program activities and community events.
