ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Cost effectively skip traces and locate address for accounts Process Server returns as Bad Address and researches all charged off accounts in legal status. Initiates legal action as appropriate. Communicates with members, attorneys and other interested parties in a timely, accurate and courteous manner in writing, in person or by telephone. Updates account information as to address, name changes, telephone number changes, etc., in a timely and accurate manner. Initiates all appropriate legal action as necessary and follows through to completion. Assists the Member Assistance Legal Specialist with monitoring executions and garnishments as directed. Periodically completes court-required documents to obtain funds from executions and garnishments. Contacts members for a discussion of account status and attempts to conclude a repayment plan with regards to the member and the credit union. Ensures documentation of the conversation is entered into the computer system timely and accurately. Periodically prepares a list of accounts for the Process Server for all accounts deemed ready for executions and PFD garnishment. Coordinates notifications from executions, and ensures court deadlines are met for filing appropriate paperwork to obtain funds from executions. Recommends Settlements and makes recommendations. Corresponds with members to negotiate settlement proposals. Evaluates delinquent accounts. Reviews and corrects possible errors in account balances. Maintains files of all accounts judged delinquent. Contacts members for a discussion of account status and attempts to conclude a repayment plan with regard to the member and the Credit Union. Ensures documentation of the conversation is entered into the computer system timely and accurately. Monitors repayments daily and takes appropriate action.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates all potential problems to the Member Assistance Senior Staff in a timely manner. Meets the current standards as established for the department in the completion of all assigned duties. Performs other duties as assigned. Keeps knowledge current on Bankruptcy laws and legal proceedings by completing continuing education courses or classes.QUALIFICATIONS
A 2-year degree in legal studies or paralegal certificate is desired; with at least 2 years working as a paralegal, legal secretary or similar is also required. Additional work experience will be accepted in lieu of education requirement. Financial institution experience is preferred. Must have working knowledge of bankruptcy, probate, court proceedings and have experience in court representation. Knowledge in SCRA regulations is also required. Must have good clerical, communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of Excel and Word is desirable. Responsible for abiding with the policy for compliance in all Bankruptcy, Fair Debt Collection, Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML),FCRA as well as the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).BENEFITS AT CU1
