A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.

Job Description

To teach college credit courses in the subject specified using online teaching methods. Adjunct (part-time), semester-based employment with compensation based on course load and institutional pay schedule. Bachelor's Degree from a nationally, regionally, or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education in in Law or Legal or Law-related field required. Doctorate Degree in law is desired. Minimum of three years practical experience in the legal field if Bachelor Degree level, two years if Masters or Doctorate. Demonstrates knowledge in the subject matter being taught. Ability to communicate with students in a clear manner using both written and oral communication. Ability to author tests and lesson plans. Ability to give academic and vocation guidance to students as needed. Ability to use Blackboard as a teaching method. Develop a class plan for teaching the course. On the first day of class (either face-to-face class or online class), provide students with a syllabus which includes general course objectives; list of instructional material required and/or optional; specific course requirements; number and type of exams; and how the semester grade will be determined. Provide a copy to the Department Secretary. On the first day of class (either face-to-face class or online class), provide each student with a course calendar which lists daily reading assignments and exam dates. Provide a copy to the Department Secretary. Online class - will communicate with each enrolled student by e-mail or telephone on or before the first day of class. Respond to students in a timely manner (within 48 hours). Online courses - log-on to Blackboard daily to check/respond to messages from students and monitor student progress. Teach the course (either face-to-face class or online class) according to the syllabus and textbook. Keep accurate records of student attendance/participation and grades so than an evaluation may be made at any time on the progress of students. Meet every scheduled class on time and develop instructional plans that will use the full period allocated to the class. Maintain and submit necessary preliminary and final grade tolls by deadlines set by the Registrar. Participate in adjunct faculty training not less than once each semester. Give prior notification to the Department Chairman of the necessity, if any, to be absent from class, and provide a substitute instructor meeting SACS credential requirements. "Swear" words will not be used in class unless quoting from a reference that is part of the required course material and/or necessary for understanding the course material. Develop and administer a minimum of two examinations and any other course material as needed. The final exam must be given on the exam date published in the schedule bulletin.
