Job Description

We are a small, client-focused family law firm serving individuals and families throughout South Texas. Our practice handles divorce, child custody, child support, modifications, enforcement actions, protective orders, and related family law matters. We are seeking a dependable, organized, and compassionate Legal Assistant to support our attorneys and help clients navigate challenging situations with professionalism and care. Position Summary The Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to attorneys in a busy family law practice. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients who may be experiencing stressful personal circumstances. Key Responsibilities Prepare, format, proofread, and file legal documents related to family law matters Assist attorneys with case management, scheduling, and trial preparation Maintain physical and electronic client files Communicate with clients regarding case updates, appointments, and requested documentation Draft correspondence and basic legal forms under attorney supervision Coordinate hearings, mediations, depositions, and court deadlines E-file documents with Texas state courts Answer phones, manage calendars, and greet clients professionally Track deadlines and ensure timely follow-up on pending matters Assist with intake of new clients and conflict checks Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism Qualifications Previous legal assistant or law office experience preferred but not required Family law experience strongly preferred but not required Knowledge of Texas court filing procedures and legal terminology Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Bilingual English/Spanish preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management software Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills Education High school diploma or equivalent required Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay based on experience Opportunities for professional growth Supportive small-office environment Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is reliable, compassionate, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly with clients facing emotionally sensitive family law issues.
