Flores Law Firm, PLLC is seeking an experienced, highly organized and professional Senior Civil Litigation Paralegal / Case Manager to become a key member of our growing litigation practice. Flexible on starting and graduating salary. This is not an entry-level position and it is not primarily an administrative role. Our practice is expanding, with an increasing concentration of business and commercial litigation, real estate matters, corporate representation and complex civil disputes. We are looking for a paralegal who can take genuine ownership of an active litigation docket and work closely with the managing attorney to keep cases moving forward. The right candidate understands that excellent legal representation involves more than preparing documents. Our clients expect responsiveness, professionalism, communication and attention to detail. We are therefore looking for someone who is both technically capable and exceptionally good with people.
THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You may be a strong fit if you: Take ownership of assignments rather than waiting to be reminded. Know how to manage multiple active litigation matters and competing deadlines. Communicate confidently, professionally and cordially with clients. Understand that clients should receive updates before they have to ask for them. Can identify what needs to happen next in a case and help make it happen. Produce polished written work with strong grammar and attention to detail. Understand professional timekeeping and the importance of accurately capturing substantive billable work. Remain composed and organized in a busy litigation environment. Enjoy responsibility and want your contribution to matter.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Litigation Paralegal will work directly with the managing attorney and will be expected to assist with matters from inception through discovery, dispositive motions, mediation, trial and resolution.
Responsibilities will include:
Managing and organizing active civil litigation files. Drafting pleadings, motions, notices, correspondence and other litigation documents for attorney review. Drafting and coordinating written discovery, discovery responses, subpoenas and document production. Reviewing and organizing evidence, business records, contracts, financial records and other case materials. Preparing case chronologies, factual summaries and litigation materials. Monitoring docket control orders, statutes, discovery deadlines, hearing dates and other critical deadlines. Coordinating depositions, hearings, mediations, expert witnesses and trial preparation. Preparing exhibits, deposition materials, hearing notebooks and trial materials. Filing documents in Texas state and federal courts. Maintaining organized electronic case files. Communicating with clients to obtain information, provide appropriate case-status updates and ensure that client needs are addressed promptly. Communicating professionally with opposing counsel, court personnel, experts, vendors and other parties. Maintaining accurate contemporaneous time entries for substantive legal work. Reviewing the active docket regularly and identifying matters requiring action. Anticipating attorney and case needs rather than simply reacting to assignments.
CLIENT SERVICE IS ESSENTIAL
This position will have substantial client contact. We are specifically seeking someone who is cordial, personable, tactful and professional and who understands how important communication is to the attorney-client relationship. Clients should feel that their case is being actively handled and that someone at the firm knows what is happening with their matter. The successful candidate will therefore be expected to communicate proactively, return communications promptly, maintain professionalism during difficult conversations and develop positive working relationships with our clients.
BILLABLE WORK & PRODUCTIVITY
This is a professional paralegal position involving substantial substantive legal work. The successful candidate must be comfortable accurately recording time and working toward reasonable billable-hour and productivity expectations. We are not interested in inflated billing or unnecessary work. We are interested in accurately capturing valuable substantive work actually performed for our clients while ensuring that cases continuously move forward.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong candidates should have: Meaningful prior civil litigation experience in a law firm. Strong knowledge of Texas civil litigation procedure. Experience drafting pleadings and discovery. Experience with Texas electronic filing and court procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and deadline-management abilities. Professional judgment and discretion. Strong computer and document-management skills. The ability to work independently while understanding when attorney involvement is required. Experience with commercial litigation, business disputes, real estate litigation, complex civil litigation or federal litigation is particularly valuable. Paralegal certification or formal paralegal education is preferred, but substantial hands-on litigation experience may be considered in lieu of certification. Bilingual English/Spanish ability is a plus, but litigation ability, professionalism, communication skills and judgment are more important.
WHAT THIS POSITION OFFERS
This is an opportunity for an experienced paralegal to become an important part of a growing litigation practice rather than simply another employee in a large organization. The person selected will work directly with the firm's managing attorney, have meaningful responsibility for active cases and client relationships, and have the opportunity to grow professionally as the firm's civil and corporate practice continues to expand. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with demonstrated experience and ability, with the opportunity for performance-based incentives.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit: Your résumé; A short statement explaining your civil litigation experience; and A brief explanation of why you believe you would be a strong fit for a client-facing litigation practice.
