The Legal Assistant provides clerical support to attorneys and staff within the Public Defender's Office. This position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient case management and supporting the delivery of legal services to indigent clients. Responsibilities Prepare and draft legal documents including contracts, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence with accuracy Answering phones and relaying time-sensitive information Manage case files through filing, data entry, and document management systems to ensure all records are up-to-date Conduct thorough legal case management by organizing case materials and tracking deadlines Maintain accurate and confidential case files and records Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and the public Ensure compliance with office procedures, court deadlines, and confidentiality requirements Qualifications Strong technology and interpersonal skills Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear legal drafts and proofread documents meticulously Exceptional organizational skills for managing multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail Effective communication skills and coordinating with team members Ability to handle data entry tasks accurately while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
