We prefer someone who has 2+ years of experience working in a law firm. Bonus if you have experience working in family law in Washington and/or Clark County. An ideal candidate has strong computer skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to manage work independently. Attention to detail and ability to learn also very important to the position. Position currently uses Macintosh computer, and is preferred for anti-virus purposes, but our firm is open to purchasing new equipment if needed. If using Macintosh is a problem for candidate, this should be mentioned in the interview. Our firm also practices juvenile, criminal defense, administrative, business, estate planning and probate law, so should also be interested in these areas. This is a full-time in office position. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Job duties include:
1) Must have the ability to draft legal pleadings, particularly family law pleadings. Use of mypleadings.com for family law forms. For example, must be able to draft various family law petitions/responses and all corresponding pleadings required. 2) The ability to bill 5+ hours in an eight hour work day 3) Project management of discovery. Must be able to draft discovery and responses to written discovery 4) Communications and Meetings with Clients 5) Legal Research 6) Management of motions and deadlines 7)Preparation of Trial Exhibits and Binders 8) Managing attorney's schedules, calendaring court dates, and meetings. 9) Provide backup to legal assistant with things like answering phones, greeting clients, errands/courier duty, file management etc., as needed, such as when legal assistant is out of the office. 10) Other duties as assigned by attorney The ideal candidate will have: 1) 2+ years experience in a family law office in Washington. Bonus for experience in Clark County. 2) Be able to, and have a desire, to work independently and independently problem solve. 3) Exceptional phone skills, and experience in customer service. 4) Exceptional time management and executive planning. 5) The ability to work independently and proactively. 6) The ability to draft legal pleadings in the areas of family law, juvenile law, criminal law, trust & estate planning, and business law. 7) Will have a Washington notary, or the ability to obtain one. 8) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong ability to proofread. 9) Computer skills including knowledge of Mac and PC, Microsoft word, excel, cloud based document management, and legal client databases such as Clio. 10) Reliable transportation, and exceptional work attendance. Pay will be $28-32 per hour depending on experience. Benefits include generous paid time off per year, plus paid Court Holidays off consistent with the Clark County Superior Court Holiday Schedule (approximately an additional 12 paid days off per year in addition to PTO). We also pay half of employee's monthly health insurance premium (includes dental/vision), and provide a retirement account (Simple IRA) with matching. We pay for parking.
