The purpose of this job is to enforce parking ordinances of parked vehicles on/off street in the City of Grand Rapids. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Checks parked vehicles; identifies and determines those that are illegally parked on assigned routes; identifies violation and issues ticket. Observes and reports defective meters, obstruction on the sidewalks, pavements and damaged or missing signs Responds to customer inquiries, resolves public complaints if possible, and provides information Testifies in court regarding contested parking tickets; presents photos and evidence; answers any questions Verifies license plates of violators using handheld computer to determine if cars are on scofflaw list due to being repeat offenders; orders the impounding of vehicles as required Maintains assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computer, printer, paper, envelopes etc. Operates a motorized vehicle Reports observed matters which concern the public peace and safety Performs related work as required Required Education and Experience High school diploma (or GED equivalent) --OR-- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities Required License Valid Michigan driver's license
