Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications :
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a Part-Time Pretrial Probation Officer with Human Services/Criminal Justice experience working with justice involved individuals and experience with mental health and substance use disorders for the Community Corrections and Pretrial Services program.
Duties:
Conduct thorough interviews of incarcerated defendants eligible for pretrial in the jail or virtual setting based on training and provided guidance documents. Communicate professionally with people from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Prepare accurate risk assessments per DCJS policy. Conduct detailed and complete investigations using a variety of sources to obtain accurate information for reports. Verify information provided by client to assist judicial officials in making well-informed bail decisions. Prepare timely Court reports and present appropriate bail recommendations to judicial officers consistent with DCJS and CCP Policy. Provide testimony in Court as required. Conduct and interpret criminal history/background checks via NCIC/VCIN and Supreme Court database systems. Maintain organization integrity by keeping defendant information confidential per DCJS and HIPPA guidelines. Establish and maintain paper and electronic records as required by the DCJS, DHS, and Community Corrections policies. Candidate must successfully complete the Core Training approved by the DCJS after onboarding. Please note these positions are Grant-funded with no established end date. Accordingly, the following information is related. You will be required to sign a Condition of Employment letter upon hire if this applies to your position. 1. The position is subject to the continuation of CIP, grant or Non-Profit Foundation funding. 2. Expiration of the grant or discontinuation of CIP or Non-Profit Foundation-funding for the position shall result in its elimination; at which time, you will be separated from employment. The city will provide as much advance notice as possible to you. 3. The City's Reduction in Force Policy (6.11) does not apply to your employment. 4. All remaining policies, appropriate to your employment status, are extended to you with your compliance being mandatory.

MINIMUMS
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, such as sociology, probation, counseling, or corrections.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. VCIN Certified.
Alpha I Status:
Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status. Must be able to obtain and maintain CJIS clearance along with National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certification.

E VRS Contribution :
All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
