Department Facilities Management Administration Job Summary The Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety will support the Director of Environmental Health and Safety in maintaining Bowdoin College's comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS ) Program. The Assistant Director will work under the direction of the Director of EHS and be responsible for developing and maintaining safety programs that meet applicable federal, state and local regulations and standards. This position provides campus outreach, communications and education across academic and administrative departments that promote risk reduction and awareness of EHS issues. Additional responsibilities include ongoing development and management of the campus learning management system to support all EHS related training programs. The Assistant Director supervises one Safety Specialist.
COMPENSATION
+ The hiring range for this position is expected to be: $77,200-$84,100.

Education/Skills Requirements Required:
+ Bachelor's degree is required + RCRA Hazardous Waste and DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation training
Preferred:
+ Masters degree preferred + Certification in one of the following: Certified Safety Professional ( CSP ) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist ( CIH ) and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager ( CHMM ) Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents A minimum of 4-7 years of experience in a related position/field is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Demonstrated working knowledge of
OSHA , EPA , MEDEP
, NFPA and state/local regulations. + Detailed knowledge of environmental engineering principles, occupational health and safety sciences, and/or chemical process safety (e.g. industrial hygiene, risk assessment, environmental permitting, environmental remediation, etc.) + Experience developing and editing written safety compliance plans and associated documents + Proficiency in the use of related office equipment, computers and software, including Microsoft Office Suite. + Ability to independently recognize programmatic growth opportunities and problem solve/implement strategic solutions, strong vision and self-starter with ability to both expand existing programs and build programs from the ground-up. + Ability to provide insight, guidance, advice, and leadership necessary to ensure safety of the campus and its students, faculty, and staff. + Ability to analyze and interpret technical documents or regulations and then determine applicability and steps associated with achieving compliance. + Demonstrated capability to quickly assess situations, speak in public and make recommendations/decisions. + Ability to manage interpersonal relationships, resolve conflicts and communicate effectively with diverse groups and key campus constituents. + Ability to conduct thorough safety inspections and generate accurate and detailed inspection documents. + Supervisory experience. + Project management and contracted services experience. Standard Work Days and Hours + This is a full-time position working 40 hours/52 weeks, (1.00 FTE ) + Standard administrative hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm. + Exempt positions require the time commitment necessary to complete the essential duties of the position.
