Manufacturing Location:
Newark, NJ Salary:
$105,000-$130,000/year
Schedule:
Monday-Friday; typical hours between 6:00 AM-3:00 PM, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM, or 8:00 AM-5:00 PM based on business needs Position Summary We are seeking an experienced EHSS Manager to lead Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security programs at a manufacturing facility in Newark, NJ. This position will serve as the site's EHSS subject matter expert, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations while driving continuous improvement and building a strong culture of safety and environmental responsibility. The EHSS Manager will work closely with site leadership, manufacturing, distribution, corporate EHSS, contractors, and employees to identify risks, improve processes, manage regulatory requirements, and support a safe and compliant operation. This is an on-site position with occasional travel to other company locations for audits, inspections, training, or compliance-related meetings. Key Responsibilities Serve as the site's primary EHSS resource and liaison with regulatory agencies. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DEP, NFPA, and applicable local, state, and federal requirements. Monitor regulatory developments and communicate compliance requirements to site leadership. Lead regulatory inspections, audits, agency interactions, and corrective action activities. Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHSS policies, programs, procedures, and audit processes. Conduct risk assessments and industrial hygiene evaluations and implement corrective/preventive actions. Support facility modifications, process changes, and new equipment installations to ensure EHSS requirements are incorporated. Lead EHSS training for employees, contractors, and visitors, including training needs assessments and training documentation. Maintain training matrices, safety records, SDS documentation, incident records, and EHSS reporting systems. Lead investigations involving injuries, incidents, spills, near misses, and other loss events, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking. Track and analyze EHSS metrics, including TRIR, DART, environmental, and sustainability metrics. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, environmental performance, compliance, and operational effectiveness. Manage environmental compliance programs and reporting, including permits, stormwater, SPCC, TRI, Tier II, air emissions, and pollution prevention. Support sustainability initiatives involving waste reduction, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and ESG goals. Partner with manufacturing and distribution leadership to standardize EHSS practices and drive best practices. Ensure contractor and vendor compliance through qualification, monitoring, and performance programs. Oversee site security programs, including security audits, access control, badge administration, and camera systems. Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for internal leadership, corporate systems, and regulatory submissions. Support safety committees and employee engagement initiatives to strengthen the site's safety culture. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field. 5-10 years of EHSS/EHS, environmental, safety, engineering, or related experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or R D environment. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations. Experience leading EHSS projects, teams, committees, or site initiatives. Experience with regulatory inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions. Strong understanding of environmental compliance and reporting requirements. Excellent leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Strong ability to collaborate with employees and leadership at all levels. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other EHSS-related systems. Ability to work occasional hours outside the normal schedule when business needs require.
Preferred:
