Manager, Combustible Dust Safety & Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)

• Remote FDRsafety is seeking a Manager, Combustible Dust Safety & Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) for a leading food manufacturing organization with operations throughout the United States.

This position is responsible for managing enterprise combustible dust safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting operational excellence across multiple facilities.

The Manager will serve as a regional technical resource for combustible dust safety by implementing

NFPA 660

standards, coordinating Dust Hazard Analyses (DHAs), supporting engineering controls, and partnering with operations and engineering leadership to reduce risk, improve compliance, and strengthen safety performance. This role offers the opportunity to lead critical safety initiatives while driving continuous improvement throughout a complex manufacturing environment.

The salary range for this position is $101,000

• $151,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance)
• -Essential ResponsibilitiesCombustible Dust Safety & Regulatory Compliance
• Manage implementation of combustible dust safety programs and process safety management principles across assigned operations.
• Oversee mechanical integrity programs for combustible dust protection systems.
• Manage inspection, testing, and maintenance programs for:
• Dust collectors
• Rotary valves
• Isolation devices
• Explosion venting systems
• Explosion suppression systems
• Maintain Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) documentation and ensure all required five-year reviews remain current.
• Serve as the regional technical resource for

compliance, conducting gap assessments, hazard evaluations, and risk mitigation initiatives.

• Participate in facility audits with OSHA, insurance representatives, and regulatory agencies

• Support implementation of engineering controls and established technical standards for combustible dust management.
• Administer Management of Change (MOC) reviews and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for dust-handling equipment modifications.
• Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Benchmark programs against evolving industry standards and best practices

• Manage combustible dust management systems aligned with business objectives and operational risk reduction.
• Maintain governance standards, policies, and procedures across assigned operations.
• Partner with operations and engineering teams to execute combustible dust capital improvement initiatives.
• Promote environmental stewardship and a proactive safety culture throughout regional operations

• Identify workplace hazards through facility assessments and equipment evaluations.
• Lead root cause investigations for incidents and near misses.
• Develop and monitor corrective and preventive action plans.
• Track leading and lagging safety indicators to identify trends and improve performance.
• Support emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts

• Implement NFPA 660 and Environmental Health & Safety training programs.
• Deliver both foundational and advanced training for production and maintenance employees.
• Promote employee engagement through visible leadership, communication, and coaching.
• Track compliance metrics, inspection records, emergency response documentation, and housekeeping programs
• -QualificationsEducation
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related technical discipline required.
• Bachelor's degree in Feed Milling or Business may be considered with extensive combustible dust safety expertise.

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of progressive Process Safety or Environmental Health & Safety experience.
• Demonstrated experience implementing combustible dust safety programs across multiple facilities.
• Strong working knowledge of NFPA 660 and previous combustible dust standards including NFPA 61, 484, 652, 654, and 664.
• Experience managing combustible dust projects within manufacturing, grain handling, energy, or other high-risk industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations.
• Experience leading large-scale regulatory compliance and safety improvement initiatives.
