This position is located at Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute This is an on-site position. This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Qualifications Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited technical institute or vocational school with a degree in fire protection engineering technology, fire science, engineering technology, construction management, or related acceptable field and experience equivalent to two years of responsible full-time fire prevention, safety inspection, or technical plans review work including at least one year of fire safety inspection work. Necessary Special Qualifications :

Examination Method:

Education and Experience,100%, for Preferred Service positions. Overview Under general supervision, is responsible for facilities safety lead work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the lead class in the Facilities Safety Officer series. An employee in this class is responsible for leading subordinate facilities safety officers or in performing facility safety work for the largest facilities by conducting inspections of new and existing buildings, flammable liquids and explosive storage facilities and delivery vehicles. Work involves conducting complex and difficult fire safety inspections and participating in training subordinate staff in proper inspection procedures, practices, and techniques. This class differs from that of Facilities Safety Officer 2, in that incumbents of the latter function at the working level. Responsibilities Conducts comprehensive facility fire and safety inspections according to codes, policies, and procedures. Provides detailed explanations and interpretations of fire and safety codes/standards to staff and management. Ensures follow-up on corrective actions for issues identified in inspection reports. Oversees and coordinates required inspections by the Fire Marshal or other authorities. Oversees the preparation and maintenance of data, records, and reports on fire and safety as required by standards.

Ensures that all facility fire/safety policies and procedures meet current code and policy standards. Leads and conducts fire and safety training sessions for individuals and groups, ensuring compliance with codes, policies, and procedures. Reviews and approves evaluations of construction and architectural blueprints for fire and safety protection deficiencies. Manages the coordination of fire and safety compliance inspections with staff, agencies, and other facilities. Oversees and coordinates fire and safety-related activities across the work team and ensures alignment with organizational goals. Leads efforts to build cooperation and trust among team members through active leadership and involvement in facility activities and training. Offers expert consultation to departments on fire and safety regulations, rules, procedures, and activities. Ensures continuous and open communication with supervisors and staff to maintain a safe work environment. Leads Emergency Management initiatives, ensuring staff are prepared to mitigate, prepare, respond, and recover from natural or manmade disasters. Competencies (KSA's)
