This position promotes a culture of safety throughout the organization, minimizes workplace risks, and ensures all employees operate in a safe and compliant environment. This role serves as a strategic partner to Fabrication, Field Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Project Management. While regulatory compliance is foundational, the primary goal is to reduce risk, improve safety performance, lower workers' compensation costs, improve the Experience Modification Rate (EMR), and support operational excellence across the company. Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and enforce company safety policies, procedures, and programs. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, federal, state, and local safety regulations. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of fabrication operations, field erection activities, jobsites, fleet operations, and maintenance activities, including risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards. Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analyses; coordinate post-incident reviews and track corrective actions through completion. Manage and oversee workers' compensation claims, including incident investigations, medical coordination, return-to-work programs, and claim closure efforts. Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and subcontractors. Maintain all required safety documentation, records, and regulatory reports, including OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs, while ensuring all reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time. Develop, monitor, and maintain leading and lagging safety performance indicators (recordable incidents, lost-time incidents, near misses, corrective actions, training completion, and safety audit results); prepare reports for management. Monitor and actively manage the company's Experience Modification Rate (EMR) and work with management, insurance carriers, and brokers to identify opportunities for improvement. Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities. Collaborate with Operations, Fabrication, Field, Maintenance, Quality, and Project Management leadership to integrate safety into daily operations and planning, establish safety goals, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in pre-job planning meetings, project kickoffs, and operational reviews to proactively identify and mitigate risks. Manage subcontractor and contractor safety compliance when applicable. Support customer prequalification requirements, safety questionnaires, ISNetworld, Avetta, and other contractor qualification systems as required. Serve as the primary point of contact during OSHA inspections and regulatory audits. Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives and foster a proactive safety culture. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements. Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and safety training programs. Working knowledge of workers' compensation claims management, EMR performance, and insurance-related safety metrics. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities. Preferred Experience within structural steel fabrication, steel erection, industrial construction, manufacturing, or heavy construction environments.
OSHA 500
Certification. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Additional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to walk job sites, climb stairs and ladders, and perform field inspections. Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions.
