Job Description

Shop Safety Manager Extreme Steel, Inc. operates multiple fabrication facilities across Northern Virginia. We manufacture and install structural and miscellaneous steel components for the commercial building sector. As we continue to grow our fabrication capabilities, workforce, and operations, we have an increasing need for a Shop Safety Manager to support a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, comfortable working directly with production teams and craftsmen, and able to build positive relationships while maintaining accountability for safety standards. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Conduct safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective actions, and conduct follow-up assessments. Plan and conduct safety, compliance, and preventative training programs. Support and manage environmental, safety, and health programs within fabrication facilities. Provide production management with guidance on health and safety matters. Ensure shop facilities comply with applicable company, local, state, and federal safety requirements. Collaborate with management to maintain and update Emergency Action Plans. Lead and assist with workplace incident investigations and corrective actions. Assist with employee return-to-work processes and safety-related case management. Maintain safety records, electronic logs, inspection documentation, and tracking systems. Identify safety training needs among fabricators and production employees. Conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and other employee safety presentations. Work alongside production leadership to incorporate safe work practices into daily fabrication activities. Promote a positive safety culture focused on learning, accountability, and continuous improvement. Monitor employee compliance with established safety procedures and PPE requirements. Report safety performance, concerns, trends, and improvement opportunities to the Safety Director. Participate in team meetings and maintain a regular presence throughout fabrication facilities. Perform other safety-related duties as assigned. Work Schedule & Benefits This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position scheduled for approximately 40 hours per week . The Shop Safety Manager is eligible for overtime based on business and operational needs. This position requires regular on-site presence at Extreme Steel's fabrication facilities and may require schedule flexibility to support production operations, safety training, inspections, and incident response. Ability to identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions. Risk assessment and risk management skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, supervisors, and management. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Comfortable conducting safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks. Strong attention to detail and documentation skills. Ability to build positive working relationships while maintaining accountability for safety requirements. Comfortable working in an active steel fabrication/manufacturing environment. Education, Experience & Certifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related discipline preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of safety experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, industrial, construction, or similar environment. Experience conducting safety inspections, employee training, incident investigations, or compliance activities preferred. Experience working in a steel fabrication, welding, manufacturing, or industrial environment is a plus. First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred. OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry certification preferred. BCSP STS or STSC certification is a plus.
