Job Description
Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) C&C Contractors, LLC Alabama National Cemetery - Gravesite Expansion Phase 3 Montevallo, AL Full-time | Onsite daily | Salary $70,000-$90,000 C&C is a safety-first federal contractor. We need a local SSHO who will be on this job every day, not someone looking for per diem travel work. The job This is an onsite SSHO for a VA National Cemetery expansion in Montevallo. Scope is heavy civil with some vertical: earthwork, preplaced crypts, columbarium walls, roads, a bridge, storm drainage, irrigation, landscaping, and limited building IT work. The cemetery stays in operation. Burial activity takes precedence over construction. No work starts unless a designated SSHO is on site. That is a contract requirement, not a preference. What you will do Be on site Monday through Friday, plus weekends when work is running Maintain and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Project Health and Safety Plan Prepare, review, and update Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) before each definable feature of work Run or support preparatory meetings and toolbox talks Conduct daily site safety inspections and document deficiencies Enforce
EM 385-1-1, OSHA
1926, PPE, trench safety, heat stress, and weather protocols (weather is checked at least twice a day) Stop unsafe work immediately Investigate and report incidents and near misses on EM 385 timelines Coordinate safety with the superintendent, QC, subcontractors, and theVA RE/COR
Keep training records, OSHA cards, designation letters, and inspection logs current Any other activities required by C&C and/or the contract Required Live local to Montevallo / Birmingham / Shelby County, or close enough to drive in daily. No per diem. No relocation package. 10 years of construction safety experience Current OSHA 30 card. You must have the physical instructor-signed card (or a completion certificate if the class was in the last 90 days) 24 hours of documented safety and occupational health competency training within the last 3 years (EM 385-1-1) Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1, OSHA, APPs, AHAs, preparatory meetings, toolbox talks, and PPE Able to serve as the OSHA competent person on site Computer proficient (Word, Excel, email, PDF markups, daily reports) Valid driver's license Preferred Federal construction experience (VA, USACE, or similar) OSHA 500 and/orOSHA 510
Heavy civil experience: excavation, trench/excavation competent person, paving, concrete, crane/rigging awareness Prior SSHO designation on an EM 385 project Pay and benefitsSalary:
