Job Description

About the Role The LoftCrafters, Inc. (TLC) is seeking a proactive, hands-on HR & Safety Specialist to support and strengthen our human resources, employee development, workplace safety, training, and field operations. This position is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys being more than an administrator. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted resource for employees and leadership while regularly engaging with field crews, project supervisors, and active jobsites. The HR & Safety Specialist will have ownership of key HR processes, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, timekeeping, and personnel documentation, while also helping lead TLC's safety program and supporting field productivity initiatives. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, comfortable working independently, and able to move seamlessly between office-based HR responsibilities and active construction environments. Key Responsibilities Human Resources & Employee Relations Manage the full employee lifecycle, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, selection, offers, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding. Partner with managers and supervisors on employee relations matters, performance concerns, attendance issues, coaching, corrective action, and workplace expectations. Coordinate the company's bi-annual performance review process and ensure performance documentation is completed consistently and in a timely manner. Develop, update, and maintain job descriptions for all company positions. Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and HR compliance documentation. Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, with a strong focus on California requirements. Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding company policies, procedures, and workplace practices. Audit, correct, and submit electronic timesheets on a weekly basis, identifying discrepancies and partnering with supervisors and employees to resolve issues. Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, employee communication, and overall employee experience. Assist with various administrative and operational responsibilities, including alarm code updates, company phone management, toll transponder tracking, and other company records. Safety & Risk Management Administer and continuously improve the company's safety program in partnership with leadership and field supervisors. Maintain safety policies, procedures, training materials, and required documentation to support OSHA and Cal/OSHA compliance. Coordinate and facilitate bi-weekly safety meetings and maintain attendance and training records. Conduct or coordinate jobsite safety inspections and follow up on identified hazards or corrective actions. Monitor field compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. Track workplace incidents, near misses, injuries, and safety concerns. Assist with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, documentation, and corrective action plans. Partner with project supervisors and field leadership to identify potential risks and implement practical solutions. Maintain accurate safety records, certifications, training documentation, and other compliance-related records. Promote a proactive safety culture where employees understand that safety is a shared responsibility. Onboarding, Training & Employee Development Own and continuously improve the new-hire onboarding process from offer acceptance through the first 90 days of employment. Ensure new employees receive required company, safety, job-specific, and compliance training. Develop, organize, and maintain training materials for both field and office employees. Coordinate skills-based training programs aligned with employee competencies and business needs. Track employee skills, certifications, licenses, training completion, and other qualifications. Partner with supervisors to identify training gaps and development opportunities. Establish and maintain clear training records to provide leadership with visibility into employee readiness and capabilities. Field Productivity & Operational Support Regularly engage with field teams and project supervisors to understand operational challenges and identify opportunities for improvement. Monitor field crew productivity and help identify barriers affecting project efficiency. Partner with project supervisors to track labor hours against project schedules, budgets, and project requirements. Review workforce-related trends and identify opportunities to improve labor utilization and productivity. Recommend practical process improvements that help crews remain on schedule, operate safely, and meet project expectations. Serve as a bridge between HR, field employees, supervisors, and leadership to support effective communication and execution. Qualifications Required 2+ years of experience in an HR Generalist, HR Specialist, HR Coordinator, or similar HR role. Bilingual in English and Spanish required. Working knowledge of California employment practices and HR compliance. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee matters. Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and adapt to changing business needs. Comfortable working in both an office environment and active construction/jobsite environments. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish positive working relationships with employees at all levels of an organization. Preferred Experience in the construction, remodeling, residential building, skilled trades, or similar industry. Experience administering or supporting an OSHA/Cal-OSHA safety program. Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, or safety training. Experience with performance management and employee relations. Experience with HRIS, timekeeping, applicant tracking, or electronic onboarding systems. OSHA-10, OSHA-30, or other relevant safety certification. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or other HR certification. What Success Looks Like First 30 Days Develop a strong understanding of TLC's workforce, operations, HR processes, and safety program. Build relationships with employees, supervisors, project leaders, and management. Review existing HR, safety, training, and timekeeping processes and identify immediate opportunities for improvement. First 60 Days Establish consistent onboarding and training processes. Implement reliable tracking of employee skills, certifications, and required training. Establish regular visibility into safety activities, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions. Begin identifying opportunities to improve field productivity and workforce efficiency. First 90 Days Have a well-organized and functioning onboarding process from hire through the first 90 days. Establish consistent HR and employee documentation practices. Have comprehensive visibility into the company's safety program, training requirements, and compliance activities. Provide leadership with meaningful visibility into field productivity metrics and labor trends. Establish strong working relationships with field and office teams. Identify and begin implementing practical improvements that positively impact employee experience, safety, productivity, and operational efficiency.
