Job Description Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for providing full-time safety oversight for a construction project located in the southeastern United States. The SSHO is a strong team player with in-depth knowledge of
USACE EM 385-1-1, 29 CFR
1910, and 29 CFR 1926, and ensures the project team, subcontractors, and site operations remain in compliance with all governing safety standards. This position supports federal construction projects across the Southeastern U.S.; specific job site will be assigned based on current task orders and is subject to change. Essential Functions
  • Provide thorough safety orientation for all project new hires.
  • Provide strong, hands-on safety oversight and guidance across the project site.
  • Guide subcontractors through preparation of required government safety documentation.
  • Enforce all governing and company safety standards using a Behavior-Based Safety approach.
  • Conduct daily onsite safety inspections.
  • Identify, correct, and document safety deficiencies.
  • Conduct initial inspections of equipment prior to use on site.
  • Communicate daily with the project team on safety status and concerns.
  • Maintain accurate safety recordkeeping, including the Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) matrix.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and be able to drive as needed for site duties.
  • Pass a security background check to obtain post access. Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of DOD construction safety experience (Level IV qualified per
EM 385-1-1
).
  • High school diploma required; trade school training or a degree preferred.
  • Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Broad working competence across multiple safety disciplines relevant to construction operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to stand, walk, climb (ladders, scaffolding, steps, etc.), drive, lift and carry, kneel, crouch, and sit as needed to perform site safety inspections and oversight duties.
